SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team concluded the second day of the ITA Central Region Championships held at the Eccles Tennis Center.
In singles competition, freshman Whitney Eber downed Kate Bushey of Air Force (6-2, 6-1) in the round of 64. Eber will advance in the singles main draw. Senior Sheri Esrock fell to Ilona Somers of Tulsa (6-3, 6-0).
"Whitney played a great match. It was a very dominant match and I like her chances in the next rounds," states head coach Megan Dorny.
"Sheri is going to have a great year because she is a really good competitor. She was a little outplayed today but will compete well in the consolation bracket," explains Dorny.
In doubles play the Utes fell short when Hansen/Vaderdys of Colorado defeated Eber and freshman Ashley Young. Junior Allison Hansen teamed up with freshman Cinthia Saucedo and lost to Black/Nigro of Air Force (8-1).
The tournament continues Friday Oct. 24 with singles competition beginning at 8:30 a.m. and doubles competition beginning at 4:00 p.m. Eber faces seventh ranked Yanick Dullens of Denver at 9:30 a.m. in the singles main draw. Esrock matches up against Christina Klokinis of Northern Arizona in the final consolation rounds at 3:00 p.m.
