SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah is proud to host the 2003 ITA Central Region Women's Tennis Championships next Wednesday through Sunday, Oct. 22-26, at the Eccles Tennis Center.
The tournament will feature over 120 participants in singles play and 56 doubles entries from 26 college teams across the region. The field includes competitors from area universities Utah, Boise State, BYU, Utah State and Weber State; Mountain West Conference schools Colorado State, New Mexico and Wyoming; and other top teams such as Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Tulsa.
Tournament play opens with the singles qualifying rounds Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. The second and third days will feature main draw singles and doubles, and consolation rounds, starting at 8:30 a.m. The quarterfinals and semifinals of all draws will be played Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. The finals take place Sunday with the singles consolation at 9:00 a.m., singles championship at 10:30 a.m. and both the doubles consolation and championship at 1:00 p.m. Admission is free. "We are excited to be hosting an event of this caliber and magnitude," said Ute women's tennis head coach Megan Dorny. "This will be great opportunity for fans to come out and see some of the best tennis that college has to offer. With BYU, Utah State, Weber State and Utah all competing, fans will get to see how the local schools match up with some of the country's top tennis teams. It will also be a great opportunity for us to showcase our university as well as our excellent athletic facilities."
