Salt Lake City - The University of Utah men's tennis team enjoyed success off the court through many academic accomplishments in the 2002 spring semester. Six Utes made the honor roll with another two athletes earning Dean's List honors. That is seventy-five percent (6 out of 8) of the athletes on the team receiving academic recognition in the spring.
Athletes qualifying for the spring semester honor roll with at least a 3.00 grade point average were: Kaisorn Chaichana, Tobias Tangberg, Tyler Poulson, Nik Yip, Jon Engelbrecht and Corrie Scheepers. Tangberg and Yip also garnered Dean's List honors with a 3.50 GPA or better. Chaichana, Tangberg and Poulson recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs for the spring semester 2002.
"I am extremely proud that we have such high-caliber student-athletes in our program," said Head Coach F.D. Robbins. "Their success in the classroom indicates the kind of quality individuals that have come to be successful here at Utah. It was a good year for us in terms of competition, as well as academics. Our kids did exceptionally well this year; that says a lot about our athletes' character and their effort to be students first. Obviously, I am very proud of that," said Robbins.
