LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Utah's women's tennis team drops another close match to the Wyoming Cowgirls, 4-3. This is the first time Wyoming has defeated Utah since 1996. This fifth consecutive loss pulls the Utes season record down to 7-11 and places them 1-4 in the Mountain West Conference.
In singles action, Linn Ronnberg was beat out at the No. 1 spot by Jenny Bowman, 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore Sheri Esrock notched Yullani Santi, 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Ellen Svensson defeated Paulina del Monte, 6-4, 6-1 and captain Irini Kotoglou etched out Toni Terhaar, 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles action, Utah was a few points away from the doubles point, which would have allowed them to pull out the victory. They were just unable to close the final set points in the extended sets. Cassie Kasteler and Svennson were victorious over Terhaar and Kati Gyulal, 8-2. The Kotoglou and Allison Hansen duo were defeated by Bowman and Jen Hancock, 9-7 and Ronnberg and Esrock were knocked out by Santi and Monte, 9-8.
Coming up, the women's tennis team will continue play tomorrow against Colorado State. The match will be held in Laramie, Wyo. and it will be played Sat., Apr. 6, at 1:00 p.m.
