ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of Utah men's tennis team lost a close match to the University of New Mexico Lobos on Fri., Apr. 5. Utah loses its first Mountain West Conference match to move to 11-8 on the year and 0-1 in the conference. Utah will take on Air Force on Sat., Apr. 6 in Albuquerque. The Utes will look to bounce back from its loss to New Mexico.
In singles competition, UNM's Divan Coetzee defeated David Mercier (7-5, 1-6, 6-3) at the one position. At the two, Corrie Scheepers downed UNM's Bart Scott (6-2, 6-4). Nik Yip beat UNM's Michael Polasek (4-6, 6-4, 7-6) at the three. UNM's David Kowalski defeated Daniel Carlsson (6-1, 7-5), UNM's John Kowalski beat Tyler Poulson (6-4, 6-4) and UNM's Ryan Stotland defeated Daniel Lohff (6-3, 6-4).
In doubles, Mercier/Yip defeated UNM's Scott/Polasek (8-6) at the one. Carlsson/Poulson downed UNM's Stotland/Salazar (8-6) at the two. UNM's Coetzee/Kowalski beat Scheepers/Lohff (8-6).
