PROVO, Utah - The University of Utah's women's tennis team drops their first round match against arch-rival BYU, 5-0. This defeat marks the second time this season the Cougars have defeated the Utes. The Utes will take on Wyoming in the Mountain West Conference consolation bracket, while BYU will face No. 1 seeded San Diego State. The Cowgirls enter the consolation bracket after being swept by San Diego State, 5-0.
In singles action, the Utes struggled to make their mark. The women netters just couldn't prevail over the Cougars down the stretch. Senior Linn Ronnberg was dowsed by Dominique Reynolds, 6-1, 6-1. Ellen Svensson was notched by Rebecca Pike, 6-2, 6-4. Cassie Kasteler was defeated by Brooke Beverley, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 and freshman Allison Hansen was beat out by Lisa Khoudolarova, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles action, the Cougars swept both matches to seal the doubles point. The Irini Kotoglou and Hansen duo were ousted by Beverley and Reynolds, 8-0 and Svensson and Kasteler were defeated by Oswald and Ferrill, 8-6.
In tomorrows action, the Utes will battle the Wyoming Cowgirls. The match will be held at the BYU Tennis Complex, Apr. 26, at 2:00 p.m. Wyoming defeated Utah in a hard fought match earlier this season, 4-3.
