SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Utah men's tennis team kicked off their two match road trip by taking on the University of San Diego on Mon. Mar. 11. San Diego defeated Utah 4-3. Utah moves to 8-6 on the season and will continue their road trip at USC on Tues., Mar. 12.
In singles, Senior David Mercier defeated USD's Juan Cerda (6-4, 7-6) at the one position. USD's Robert Blair beat Corrie Scheepers (6-1, 6-2) at the two. USD's Jason Pongsrikul downed Nik Yip (6-2, 7-5) at the three. USD's Stephen Taylor defeated Daniel Carlsson (6-7, 6-1, 7-6), Tyler Poulson beat USD's Ted Burghardt (6-3, 6-3) and Tobias Tangberg downed USD's Martin Linusson (6-0, 6-3).
In doubles competition, Mercier/Yip got Utah's only win in doubles by defeating USD's Cerda/Pongsrikul (9-8) at the one position. USD's Taylor/Burghardt beat Carlsson/Poulsen (8-6) and USD's Blair/Linusson (9-7).
