ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 22 University of Utah women's volleyball team (19-6, 8-3) won its fifth straight match tonight, defeating New Mexico 30-19, 30-32, 30-23, 30-25.
"New Mexico played really well and had a great crowd, but we withstood it, played with confidence and won on the road," Head Coach Beth Launiere said. "It was a big step for our team."
Junior Kim Turner notched her 1,000th career kill in the victory. She finished with a match-high 19 kills, along with six blocks and four service aces. "It was great to see Kim get her 1,000th kill," Launiere said. "That's a great accomplishment."
Senior captain Sylva Strzinkova added 10 kills, eight digs and four service aces, while sophomore Sabine Schulz finished with 12 kills and nine digs.
Sophomore setter Kelsie Kartchner dished out 47 assists and notched nine digs. "Kelsie is setting really well," Launiere said.
In addition, senior Brenda Beal finished with three blocks and junior Britt Whiting had four kills. "Brenda and Britt came off the bench and made some key plays," Launiere said.
UP NEXT: The Utes travel to Provo for a 7:00 p.m. match at Brigham Young next Friday, Nov. 8.
