LAS VEGAS, Nev- - The University of Utah Men's tennis team continued it's competition at the Omni Hotels Region VII Tournament today. All four Utes that had advance to the round of 32 came up short in singles play. Nick Coutts, who upsetted the no.16 seed, UNLV's Avi Salomon, fell to Hestian Stioica of Idaho State 2-6, 6-4, 6-7.
Roeland Brateanu, the no. 23 seed, faced Daniel Jung of San Diego State, and was defeated 2-6, 3-6. Tomasz Grzyb met no.13 seed Erik Nyman from BYU and lost 5-7, 2-6. Kaisorn Chaichana, the fourth Ute that advance to the round of 32 , was upended 1-6, 0-6, by David Kowalski of New Mexico.
The Utes also paired up to form two teams that saw competition today. Nick Coutts and Tyler Poulson lost 2-8 to the top-seeded pairing from San Diego State, Oliver Maiberger and Ryan Redondo. Tomasz Gryzb and Roeland Brateanu were defeated 5-8 by Gabe Coren and Daniel Jung, also of San Diego State.
