POCATELLO, Idaho - Former University of Utah soccer player Staci Burt has been invited to tryout for the U.S. National Team that will compete in the 2001 Nike U.S. Women's Cup, a four-team tournament that will bring six world class matches to three Midwest venues.
Head Coach April Heinrichs will train 24 players for four days beginning Sept. 4 in Chicago, Ill., before selecting 18 players to the face Germany on Sept. 9 at Soldier Field in Chicago, Ill. (Noon CT), Japan on Sept. 11 at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio (9:00 p.m. ET) and China on Sept. 16 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. (Noon CT).
Burt has been a starting midfielder for the Carolina Courage of the newly-formed WUSA (Women's United Soccer Association) this season. Burt began her soccer career at Cottonwood High School (Utah) where she played on all three lines. She then moved on the U. where she led the Utes in scoring and assists three years. Burt was a first team all-conference choice from 1997 and '99 and was a second team choice in 1996. After graduating, Burt played for the Chicago Cobras in the W-League.
