THIS WEEK: The Utes open the outdoor track and field season in Las Vegas, Nev. at the UNLV Invitational. The heptathletes compete in Boise, Idaho at the Boise State Heptathlon.
LAST WEEK: Teren Jameson finished ninth out of 126 runners at the Stanford Invitational Distance Cardinal in Palo Alto, Calif. on Mar. 31. His time of 13:59.83 minutes ranks fourth in the NCAA 5,000-meter run.
Johanna Nielsen placed 32nd out of 78 runners in the 5,000-meter run with 16:53.79. This was her first competition in a year.
COACH JONES ON THE WOMEN'S TEAM: "We have set goals for the women to hit. Chantel Goldsberry's progression goal is 175 feet in the hammer throw. We want Katie Harrop to hit the 5'5 feet mark in the high jump and Audrey Kiser to hit 45 feet in the shotput. Mindy Wilder should hit between 135-140 feet. This is her first competition in the javelin throw for the year because it's not offered during the indoor season," said Coach Jones.
"Erianne Allen, Shanae Nixon and Kristy Slade are all capable of earning 4700 points in the heptathlon. This is the first collegiate heptathlon for Katie Harrop."
COACH JONES ON THE MEN'S TEAM: "Our men are running well, but they need to become more consistent with their distance speed. They'll finish high once they post consistent races," said Coach Jones.
INJURY REPORT: Alexandria Nash is returning from a leg injury. Nash will compete in the 200-meter hurdles and the long jump. April Jackson is nursing a strained hamstring and will miss the first two weeks of the outdoor season.
UP NEXT FOR THE UTES: The women compete at San Diego State in San Diego, Calif., while the men compete at Weber State in Ogden, Utah on April 14.
