MORAGA, CALIF. - The University of Utah men's tennis team ended its three-match losing streak by defeating Saint Mary's College, 5-2 on Apr. 1. The Utes took the early lead by winning the doubles point. David Mercier and Nicholas Yip defeated SMC's Arturo Planell and Richard Thomson in the No. 1 spot, while Kaisorn Chaichana and Corrie Scheepers won from the No. 3 position.
Utah continued to roll in singles, winning from the top-four positions to earn the win. Mercier won at the No. 1 position, while Kevin Zenger, Scheepers and Yip won in the next three slots. The Utes fell at the No. 5 and No. 6 position in the 5-2 victory.
The Utes are 8-9 in dual play this season. They finished regular season conference play 1-4. The Utes will continue their road trip this week as they play 30th-ranked California-Berkeley on Apr. 3 and No. 6 ranked Stanford on Apr. 4.
