The University of Utah women's tennis team (5-12, 3-4 MWC) will travel to Ogden, Utah to face Weber State (13-4) for the final regular season match of the year, Tues., April 17 at 2 p.m.
About the Utes:
The University of Utah women's tennis team (5-12, 3-4 MWC) snapped a five-match losing skid in dominating fashion, downing Wyoming, 6-1, at the Eccles Tennis Center.
Utah set the tone by winning all three doubles matches to earn the first point. Heidi Thomas and Frida Kareld started things off with an 8-3 win at No. 1 over Jenny Bowman and Angela Dossetor. Cassie Kasteler and Irini Kotoglou followed suit at No. 2 with an 8-2 victory over Sofi Espinosa and Yuliani Santi. At No. 3, Sheri Esrock and Linn Ronnberg rounded out doubles play with another 8-2 drilling of Jennifer Hancock and Toni Terhaar.
Kotoglou cruised at No. 2 singles over Dossetor, 6-0, 6-2. Ronnberg defeated Espinosa 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3. Esrock eked out a 6-7, 6-4, 7-6 win against Terhaar at No. 4, while Thomas won both sets by the score of 6-3 over Santi at No. 5. In No. 6 action, Kareld routed Hancock, 6-2, 6-3. Bowman was the lone bright spot for Wyoming beating Kasteler 6-3, 7-5.
About the Wildcats:
Weber State recently won the Big Sky Pacific Regional Tournament. The Wildcats are 13-4 and have won six consecutive matches. They currently hold a No. 72 ranking.
Lenka Zacharova is ranked No. 42 with a 27-4 mark. The Bratislava, Slovakia native has an 11-1 record at No. 1 siles for dual matches.
Looking Ahead:
Utah finished the MWC season 3-4. They will most likely go into the MWC Championships April 26-28 in Fort Collins, Colo. as the fifth seed.
