MALIBU, CALIF. - MALIBU, CALIF. - The University of Utah men's tennis five match winning streak was ended by 10th-ranked Pepperdine University on Friday, Mar. 9. The 64th-ranked Utes were unable to come away with a victory in singles or doubles competition and were swept, 7-0.
In the No. 1 spot, David Mercier fell to 27th-ranked Al Garland. Kevin Zenger lost to No. 81 Sabastien Graeff in straight sets, while Nicholas Yip fell to 50th-ranked Stefan Suter. Daniel Carlsson, Corrie Scheepers and Tyler Poulson also fell for the Utes.
Poulson and Scheepers suffered their first doubles loss this season, being defeated in the NO. 3 spot. Nicholas Yip and Kevin Zenger were defeated by the tandem of Graeff and Suter, who are currently ranked 21st in the nation. 28th ranked Garland and Chase Exon defeated Mercier and Carlsson, 8-5.
The Utes will continue their road trip, playing San Diego on Mar. 12 and Southern California on Mar. 13. They will begin conference play Mar. 22 at Brigham Young.
