SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team (4-8, 2-1 MWC) lost its first Mountain West Conference match in a 7-0 shutout by No. 38 New Mexico (8-6, 1-1 MWC).
Linn Ronnberg fell in three sets to Natalia Alekhova, 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Frida Kareld won the only other set for Utah on the evening, 6-1 in the first, before an injury default at No. 6. Irini Kotoglou and Cassie Kasteler forced tiebreakers in one set each, but couldn't quite earn the sets.
Utah plays UNLV and San Diego State next weekend in Las Vegas. The Utes take on the Rebels March 30 at 2 p.m and the Aztecs March 31 at 10 a.m.
