SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH - The University of Utah men's tennis team won their third consecutive match as they defeated the University of Idaho 6-1. The match took place at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center on Friday, and the Utes were victorious in every singles match except for one. Each of the Utes doubles teams came away victorious to extend their dual team dual record to 16-2 on the season.
David Mercier breezed through his match against Amod Walkalkar to a 6-2, 6-2 win at the the No. 1 spot. Idaho's sole victory came from the No. 2 spot where Eddie Brisbois knocked off Utah's Kevin Zenger, 6-4, 6-3. Nicholas Yip won his match for the Utes 6-3, 6-1, while Daniel Carlsson swept Idaho's Fredrick Von Sydow, 6-0, 6-0. Corrie Scheepers and Tyler Poulson each rolled past their opponents, to improve their records. Scheepers has earned a 8-3 overall record this season., while Poulson is 5-1 overall.
Poulson and Scheepers remained undefeated in doubles, winning 8-4 to extend their record to 6-0 on the season. The tandem of Zenger and Yip, who reached as high as 37th in the rankings this year, were victorious to become 5-1 in dual play and 11-3 overall. Mercier and Carlsson improved to 5-1 overall.
The Utes will host 44th-ranked Boise State on Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Eccles Tennis Center at 4:00 p.m.
