Utah (25-6 overall), which posted its highest finish in school history thus far, landed sophomore Kim Turner (MB, Chandler, Ariz.) on the 2001 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) all-West Region team. Turner will now be an automatic qualifier on the 2001 All-America national ballot.
Turner is one of two other volleyball players in school history to gain all-West Region honors. The 6-2, middle blocker leads the Utes with a .352 hitting percentage and 1.50 blocks per game. She was selected to the 2001 all-MWC Team, the 2001 all-MWC Tournament Team and was the 2001 Mountain West Conference Tournament MVP. Turner was also named the MWC Player of the Week, several times throughout the 2001 season. She is one of only two other sophomores in the West Region, arguably the nation's toughest region, to make the cut.
The Utes will be making their first-ever trip to the NCAA "Sweet 16" (Regional) Tournament on Dec. 7-8 at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif.
