LAS VEGAS (AP) - Lance Rice caught a touchdown pass and threw for two more as the Utah beat UNLV 42-14 on Saturday.
Rice completed 11 of 19 passes for 161 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Dameon Hunter ran for 137 yards on 31 carries, his sixth time over 100 yards this season.
Utah raised its record to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the Mountain West, tied with Colorado State for second place. The Rebels (3-6, 2-3) dropped out of contention for bowl eligibility with the loss.
Rice's touchdown reception, with 9:43 remaining in the third quarter, broke a 14-14 tie. Rice threw wide left to Dennis Smith, and was wide open as Smith threw back to his right. Rice was untouched running the final 10 yards after the catch.
UNLV fumbled at the 18 on its next possession and the Utes recovered. On the first play after the fumble, Adam Tate ran the ball up the middle for a touchdown to increase the lead to 28-14.
Utah scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard reception by Michael Richardson and a 1-yard run by J.R. Peroulis.
The first half ended 14-14. Hunter scored on a 1-yard run and Rice found Michael Richardson for a 10-yard touchdown pass. Both UNLV scores came on interceptions returns, 70 yards by Sam Brandon and 24 yards by Kevin Thomas.
