Stockton, Calif. - The No. 13 ranked University of Utah women's volleyball team lost their first match of the Banker's Classic to the No. 10 ranked Hawaii Wahine in a five game battle (24-30, 30-19, 27-30, 30-23, 15-7), on Fri., Nov. 23 in Stockton, Calif. Utah drops to 22-6 overall, 11-3 in the MWC. Hawaii improves to 27-4.
For the Utes, Adrianne Drake and Alisa Geddes posted double-doubles on the night. Drake racked up eight kills, 11 digs and 11 total blocks. Geddes notched 11 kills for a .259 hitting percentage and 20 digs. Teammate Kim Turner totaled 14 kills, while Sylva Strzinkova added 12 kills and six digs. Jackie Morrill and Kelsie Kartchner combined for 51 assists in the match. As a team, Utah managed a .155 hitting percentage and added 13 total team blocks.
Hawaii's Kim Willoughby recorded 30 kills for a .250 hitting percentage, 10 digs and five total blocks in the match. Margaret Vakasausau posted 54 assists and 15 digs, while Maja Gustin added 12 kills, respectively. The Wahine hit for .178 and totaled 15 team blocks on the night.
UP NEXT: The Utes will face either Fairfield or Pacific on Nov. 24. Utah will await the chance to participate in the NCAAs on Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
