SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted Pacific on Friday in a dual meet. The men defeated Pacific 147.5 to 80.5. The Ute men improve to 1-2 on the season. The Ute women were defeated by Pacific with a score of 127-94. The women fall to 1-3 on the season.
In the men's competition, Freshman Cody Rempfer finished first in both the 400 IM (4:06.94) and the 100 butterfly (51.43). Jonathan Hanna finished first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:56.12. Ute Evan Castro took first in both the 200 and 500 freestyle. Utah's David Johnson finished first in the 100 back with a time of 53.41. Freshman Brett Hoersting placed second in the 100 freestyle. Daniel Godfrey placed second in the 200 breast and Brandon Durrant took second in the 50 freestyle. The Utes also took first place in both the 200 medley relay (1:36.21) and 200 freestyle relay (1:27.46).
In women's, Utah's Loren Sweny finished first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:40.44. Sweny also place second in the 500 freestyle. Sophomore Neringa Statkeviciute finished first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.61. Statkeviciute also took second in the 200 freestyle. Sophomore Kristen Kaiser finished second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:33.99. Melissa Chamberlin placed first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:23.57, while diver Kerri Fiori won the one meter and three meter diving events.
The women's swimming team will compete Saturday against San Diego State. Competition will start at noon.
