The University of Utah men's tennis team improved its home record to a perfect 3-0 on Wednesday with a 7-0 drubbing of Idaho State. The win improves the Utes overall mark to 3-4 in dual matches.
Utah started quickly, sweeping the three doubles matches to take the doubles point. The Utes' No. 3 team of Daniel Carlsson and David Laverty won their match in convincing fashion, downing the Bengal's Erkki Torn and George Devidze, 8-3.
Ashley Dyer led the way for Utah's dominance in singles play hitting for a 6-1, 6-4 straight set win over Idaho State's No. 1 singles player, George Kynervetis. The Utes' freshman duo of Laverty and Carlsson continued their winning ways as Laverty beat Malcolm Swan, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 and Carlsson aced George Devidze, 6-0, 6-2. Carlsson holds the team's best singles mark at 5-2 overall.
The Utes' next match is set for Feb. 19 when they will host Portland. The match will be held at the Eccles Tennis Center and will begin at 3:00 p.m..
