Salt Lake City - * The University of Utah women's volleyball team received an at-large selection to compete in the 64-team NCAA Division I Volleyball Championships. The Utes were the No. 8 seed in the West Region which was played in Honolulu, Hawaii on Nov. 30-Dec. 1. Utah defeated Texas Tech, 3-2 (6-16, 15-8, 2-15, 15-10, 15-12) in the first round the tourney. The Utes lost to its host Hawaii, 3-0 (12-15, 8-15, 8-15) in the second round match.
* The Utes finished the Mountain West Conference regular-season and tournament play in third place. Utah ended its season with a 23-8 (.742) overall record and a 10-4 (714) conference mark. The 23-8 (.742) overall record comprises the best win-loss record in Utah volleyball history. Utah made its third consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament, posting its third consecutive second round finish. The Utes own a 3-3 NCAA record.
* Head Coach Beth Launiere has the best winning percentage in school history. She recorded her 200th career victory at the McLeodUSA MWC Tournament with a 3-1 (15-9, 15-3, 5-15, 15-9) win over UNLV on Thurs., Nov. 16. Launiere posts a 203-146 (.582) career overall record and a 75-75 (.500) career conference record in 11 seasons.
* Utah had two players selected as members of the All-Mountain West Conference Volleyball Team. Senior Lucie Turkov? and freshman Kim Turner were all first-team selections. Utah claimed one of the MWC special awards as freshman middle blocker Kim Turner was named Freshman of the Year.
* Junior Alisa Geddes and freshman Kim Turner were named to the MWC All-Tournament Team.
* Utah had two athletes selected as MWC Players of the Week. Senior setter Lucie Turkov? was named Player of the Week on Oct. 9. Freshman middle blocker Kim Turner was named Player of the Week on Nov. 27.
* Seniors Jen Snow-Richards and Lucie Turkov? were named to the 2000 Verizon Academic All-District VIII Women's Volleyball Team. Both athletes were third-team selections.
* Seniors Jen Snow-Richards, Lucie Turkov? and Brooke Barton, along with junior McKelle Stilson made their mark on the Utah career leaders list. Turkov? ended 4th in matches played (124), 5th in games played (439) and assists (1,792), 8th in service aces (104) and 10th in digs (871). Barton is 3rd in games played (451), 4th in matches played (126) and service aces (128) and 7th in digs (941). Snow-Richards finished up 10th in matches played (121). Stilson is 3rd in hitting efficiency (.284) and block assists (329), 4th in total blocks (371), 7th in kills (997) and 9th in attempts (2,208).
* The Utes earned their first-ever national ranking, coming in 18th in the USA Today/AVCA Top 25 poll released Mon., Sept. 11. Utah, which wasn't ranked previously, received 417 points and boasted an 8-1 overall record entering the poll. Utah continued as a ranked team for 14 consecutive weeks in the Sept. 11, Sept. 18, Sept. 25, Oct. 2, Oct. 9, Oct. 16, Oct. 23, Oct. 30, Nov. 6, Nov. 13, Nov. 20, Nov. 27, Dec. 4 and should be listed in the 2000 final Dec. 20 poll. Utah was ranked as high as 15th in the poll and finished the season as the No. 20 ranked team.
* Seniors Lucie Turkov? and Jen Snow-Richards were named to the 2000 University of New Hampshire All-Tournament Team. Sophomore Katrena Ellett was named the Tournament MVP. Senior Jen Snow-Richards and junior Lenka Urbanov? were named to the 2000 Cal Poly SLO All-Tournament Team. Junior McKelle Stilson was named the Tournament MVP.
* Utah ended the 2000 season with a 3-7 (.300) record against Top-25 teams. Utah posted a 10-2 (.833) home record, 5-5 (.500) away record and an 8-1(.888) neutral site record in 2000. In 12 games at home, the Utes brought in 8,833 fans, an average of 736 fans per game.
