Ogden, Utah - The University of Utah women's volleyball team defeated the Weber State Wildcats in four games, 14-16, 15-3, 19-17, 15-5 at the Dee Events Center on Wed., Nov. 22. Utah improves to 21-7 overall, 10-4 in the MWC. Weber State ends their season with a 10-17 overall record.
Freshman middle blocker Kim Turner led the Utes with a career-high 22 kills for a .383 hitting percentage and a career-high nine total blocks. McKelle Stilson racked up 20 kills for an impressive .531 hitting percentage, while teammate Adrianne Bradley-Drake totaled 17 digs for the Utes. Junior Alisa Geddes recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 12 digs and senior Jen Snow-Richards added 13 digs, respectively. Setter Lucie Turkova totaled 10 kills and 66 assists in the match. As a team Utah had a .239 hitting percentage and added 16 total team blocks.
Stephanie Kropushek led the Wildcats with 17 kills. Teammate J. Stephanie Metcalf totaled 11 kills and 11 digs, while Mari Dean added 15 digs. Carla Miali posted 52 assists and 13 digs in the match. Weber State hit for .157 and added 12 total team blocks.
"Kim (Turner) and McKelle (Stilson) combined for 42 of our 84 kills and Weber had a rought time slowing them down and offensively they carried us tonight," said Assistant Coach Cory Solomon. "It was a great team effort though, we were down 14-8 in the third game and came back and won. I'm proud of the way our kids competed."
UP NEXT: The Utes end their regular-season at home with a match against non-conference opponent Denver on Sat., Nov. 25, at 1:00 p.m. (MST). Utah will await the NCAA's release for the 2000 Division I Women's Volleyball Selection Show 64 team bracket announcement. It will take place on Sunday, November 26 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern / 5:00 p.m. Pacific.
