The Utah men's and women's swimming team faced UNLV last Friday in Las Vegas. The men lost with a final score of 123-109and the women fell with a final score of 138-100.
Top performances by the men were Travis Schimmer and Magnus Lofgren. Schimmer won the 200 breast (2:11.85)and Lofgren was second in the 500 free (4:48.39) and 1000 free (9:52.96). The team of Brendon Bray, Curt Johnson, Stephen Linge and Brandon Durrant took second-place in the 400 medley relay (3:34.01).
Heidi Hausknecht proved to be a key component for Utah women, winning the 50 free (24.35) and the 100 free (52.34). The team of Hausknecht, Sarah Norton, Neringa Statkeviute and Erin Blundell, won the 400 free relay (3:33.73). Kristen Kaiser won the 400 IM (4:32.99) and was second in the 1000 free (10:24.39). Norton was second-place in the 100 free (52.53).
The diving competition was held at Utah, where the Utes won every event led by Jill Commins and Sterling Richards.
Commins, the only female Ute diver, won both the one-meter (236.10) and the three-meter (266.25). She almost doubled the score of the second-place finisher in both events.
Richards was number one in both the one-meter (265.8) and the three-meter (292.2). Trent Brown and James Thompson followed close behind with second and third place finishes in both events.
