Salt Lake City - The University of Utah women's volleyball team defeated the Idaho State Bengals in a quick three game match (15-6, 15-10, 15-5) at Crimson Court on Tues., Oct. 3. Utah improves to 12-2 overall, 3-1 in the MWC. Idaho State falls to 6-10 on the season, 2-5 in conference play.
Junior Alisa Geddes led Utah with 10 kills and 15 digs, her second double-double of the season. Middle blocker McKelle Stilson totaled nine kills for an impressive .571 hitting percentage and three total blocks. Junior Lenka Urbanova added nine kills and eight digs. Teammate Kim Turner added eight kills, while Lucie Turkova posted 36 assists. As a team Utah posted a .233 hitting percentage and nine total team blocks.
For the Bengals, Joy Deatherage totaled eight kills and three blocks. Melanie Tucker and Amanda Berg each had six kills and six digs. Berg also had five total blocks in the match. Sarah Kozlowski posted 19 assists and led the team with seven digs. Idaho State hit for only .008, but added 10 total team blocks in the match.
"I thought we played really well," said Head Coach Beth Launiere. "We've been trying to work on our offense again and Lucie (Turkova) has made some big strides in the past two weeks and is setting very well right now. Alisa Geddes is starting to come back for us and she got into the flow of things and had a nice match. I was very pleased with our play."
UP NEXT: On Fri., Oct. 6, Utah hosts in-state rival Brigham Young at 7:00 p.m. (MST). Utah hits the road on Tues., Oct. 10, facing in-state rival Utah State at 7:00 p.m. (MST) in Logan, Utah. On Fri., Oct. 13, Utah hosts MWC opponent New Mexico at 7:00 p.m. (MST). Utah will take on Air Force at home on Sat., Oct. 14, at 7:00 p.m. (MST). On Fri., Oct. 20, Utah travels to Las Vegas, Nev. to take on the Rebels of UNLV. Utah will match-up with San Diego State on Sat., Oct. 21 in San Diego, Calif.
