Yip and Zenger Reach Finals of ITA Regional

Las Vegas, Nevada: Utah's top doubles team posted an impressive showing at the 2000 ITA Regional Tennis Championships over the weekend. The duo of Nicholas Yip and Kevin Zenger were undefeated through the first five rounds of competition, earning the opportunity to play in the championship match against UNLV's Nenad Zikovic and Greg Skorin.
In the semifinal round, Yip and Zenger were put up to the challenge against the tournament's fourth seed, Oliver Maiberger and Travis Hasson of San Diego State. The Ute tandem fought to win the match, 8-6, and advance to the finals.
Zikovic and Skorin were seeded third in the bracket, and were looking to fight off the unseeded Utes. In a close match, UNLV came out on top over Yip and Zenger, 8-6.
Each of Utah's singles players had lost one match and were dropped into the consolation bracket, but because of a rain-out of Friday's scheduled matches, the consolation matches were cancelled.
The tournament concludes Utah's fall play and the Utes will begin play again in January.
