The University of Utah men's and women's swim teams resumed Western Athletic Conference competition by dominating the University of Wyoming at the Utah Natatorium. The Ute men boasted a 157-100 shellacking of the Cowboys to improve to a 5-3 record, while the women upped their mark to 3-6 with a 150-110 trouncing of the Cowgirls.
In the men's 1000 Free, Robert Renna and Travis Harmor took first and second places, respectively. The duo also placed one and two in the 500 Free, with Renna leading the way. Johan Nystrom won a pair of events in the 200 Free and the 100 Free, while Matt Chamberlain came in just behind Nystrom in the 200 Free. Rich Hall also won two individual events in the 200 Back and the 100 Back. Mike Green finished in second place in the 100 Back, and garnered top billing in the 100 Fly. Troy Johnson won the 50 Free and finished second in the 100 Free. In the 200 Fly, Ute John Wright finished ahead of the pack. Bjoem Olstad had a couple runner-up finishes in the 200 Breast and the 100 Breast.
The women were equally as impressive. Heidi Hausknecht swam to victory in the 100 Fly and the 100 Free, to pace the women. Heike Kutz won the 100 Back, while Amber Nye finished second. Jamie Wayman picked up a first and second place finish in the 200 Back and 200 IM, respectively. In the 100 Breast, Molly Lauber dominated by two seconds over the second place competitor, and earned a second place of her own in the 200 Breast. Erin Blundell and Lisbeth Jensen won their respective events, the 200 Fly and 50 Free. Blundell picked up second in the 500 Free as well. Annika Lundmark trailed Ute teammate Hausknecht in the 100 Fly, while Syrina Otterstrom came in second in the 200 Free.
Both Ute teams will hit the pool again tomorrow against WAC opponent Air Force at the Ute Natatorium at 1:00 p.m.
