SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's swimming and diving defeated the Air Force Academy for the first time in Ute history with a score of 112-92.This brings the women's season mark to 3-4. The Ute women swept the relay events. Heike Kutz, Molly Lauber, Heidi Hausknecht and Lisbeth Jensen won the 400 medley relay. Amber Nye, Laura Beckstead, Annika Lundmark and Nicole Lindburg finished second. Kutz, Amy Jacobson, Erin Blundell and Jensen teamed up to win the 400 free relay as well. Overall, the Utes won nine events including wins by Blundell in the 200 free and 200 fly. Hausknecht won the 100 and 200 freestyle. Kutz won the 500 free and Melissa Chamberlin won the 200 breast.
The Utah men's team squeaked by the Falcons 103-102. The win brings the Utes to a 5-3 season record. The Ute men won both the 200 medley (Mike Greene, Bjoern Olstad, Matt Chamberlain and Johan Nystrom) and 200 free relays (Troy Johnson, Drew Baker, Greene and Nystrom). Utah likewise dominated the distance freestyle lanes when freshman Travis Harmor won both the 1650 and 500 freestyle events. Junior Robert Renna was runner-up and Dan Schultz was third in the 1650 and 500, cementing the Ute victory across the board. Nystrom won the 200 free and Greene won the 200 back. Jon Wright won the 400 IM and was second in the 200 fly.
The Utes return to the water Sat., Feb. 6 at 1:00 p.m. when they face state rival Brigham Young.
