SALT LAKE CITY - Number one seeded Megan Payne of Utah and number two seeded Ute teammate, Linn Ronnberg, maintained their poll position during the second day of the University of Utah Invitational. Payne and Ronnberg will don the crimson and white in sort of an intra-squad setting for the tournament single's championship tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at the Eccles Tennis Center.
Payne defeated Weber State's Dana Delancey, 6-3, 6-0 to enter the finals, while Ronnberg upended teammate Hillaree Hawkins, 6-2, 6-3, to earn a title berth. In the consolation bracket, Utah State's Sarah Lowe advanced into the championship match with two impressive wins. Lowe cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Aggie teammate Emily Watkins, and a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Summer Marshall of WSU. Lowe's opponent will be WSU's Veronica Reynosa who recorded wins over USU's Tracy Bertagna and Amy Thatcher, 6-1, 6-0, and 7-6, 6-2, respectively.
The doubles final pits Utah's Hawkins-Ronnberg against Reynosa-Delancey for WSU at 12:00 p.m. to conclude the invitational.
