SALT LAKE CITY--The University of Utah men's tennis team dropped its second straight home match on Friday, April 2 to the visiting Rebels from UNLV. The Utes' record droped to 5-11, and 0-3 in WAC play.
In doubles play, the nation's 15th ranked tandem of Ben Coates and Philippe Rodrigue kept its winning streak alive by downing UNLV's Nevad Zivkovic and Damu Bobb, 8-4. This would be the only win the Utes would muster in doubles play. At the No. 2 position, the Rebel's Asaf Tishler and Greg Skovin downed Trevor Ferguson and Kevin Zenger, 8-6, and Danny Erez and Tyler Roberts defeated Ashley Dyer and Nik Yip, 8-4, at the No. 3 slot.
In singles play, Utah's Kevin Zenger picked up the only win for the team outlasting Tyler Roberts 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at the No. 6 position. UNLV swept the remaining five matches. Tishler downed Coates, 7-6, 7-6, and Zivkovic topped Rodrigue, 6-2, 6-4. Bobb defeated Dyer, 7-5, 6-1, and Erez waxed Ferguson, 7-6, 6-2. The final Rebel win came at No. 5 where Eke fell to Skovin, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
The next match will be held tomorrow, at Eccles Tennis Center against UTEP. Play begins at 6:00 p.m.
