Cross Country Gears Up For WAC Championships

Meet: Western Athletic Conference Championships
Date: Oct. 31, 1998
Location: Houston, Texas
Invited Teams: All 16 WAC schools compete in the women's cross country and 13 WAC schools compete in the men's cross country. Schedule of Events: The championships are held on the same day with the women running their 5,000-meter race first, followed by the men's 8,000-meter race.
Last Week: The Utes had a bye week.
This Week: The top seven finishers from each school are counted toward the total team score. The team with the lowest team score is the WAC champion.
"The men's team should challenge for one of the top three spots in the WAC," says Head Coach Mike Jones.
The WAC's pre-season poll picked the women's team to finish fifth. "We would have to run the perfect race to place fifth. To finish seventh or eighth is more realistic," says Jones. "Jeff Simonich should challenge for the Western Athletic Conference individual title,".
