Wes Wilcox enters his first season with the Runnin’ Utes as the team’s general manager after joining Alex Jensen’s staff in April of 2025.
He just the second person-ever to hold the role of general manager for the Utah men’s basketball program and comes to Salt Lake City after spending the last five seasons (2020-25) as the assistant general manager for the Sacramento Kings.
While in Sacramento, Wilcox helped the Kings assemble a roster that secured the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference in 2022-23 and ended the longest playoff drought in NBA history of 16-consecutive losing seasons.
Prior to his time in Sacramento, Wilcox spent eight seasons (2012-20) with the Atlanta Hawks. He started out as the team’s assistant GM from 2012-15 before being promoted to the General Manager position. He served as the Hawks’ GM for two years (2015-17) before moving on to a special advisor role with the organization from 2017-20.
Wilcox spent nearly a decade with the Cleveland Cavaliers organization (2003-12), serving several different roles throughout his time there.
He started out as an advanced scout his first season there before transitioning to a college scout the following year. Wilcox then spent the 2005-06 campaign as a pro personnel scout and then served as an assistant coach from 2006-08. The Cavs would then promote him to the front office as their director of player personnel from 2008-10 and also served as the team’s first-ever general manager for their NBA Developmental League (now NBA G League) team, the Canton Charge from 2010-12.
As the general manager, Wes was in charge of hiring Jensen as the Charge’s head coach in 2011 – where he would be named the NBA D-League’s Coach of the Year (2013) just his second year at the helm.
Wilcox started his NBA career in 2001 serving as a scouting and video intern for the Miami Heat and then joined the New Orleans Pelicans (2002-03) as a video coordinator before signing on with the Cavaliers.
The La Habra, Calif., native graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 2001 and served as an analyst for NBA TV and SiriusXM NBA Radio before starting his career in the NBA.
Wilcox is married to his wife, Larisha, have a son, Noah and twins, Jaleah and Jonah. His wife Larisha has a decade of experience in the NBA working in the public relations and basketball operations space.
