On July 1^st of 2025, Matthew Thomson was promoted to the position of Associate Athletics Director for Business Operations. In this role, Thomson serves as the primary operational manager for all accounting, budgetary, and finance functions for Utah Athletics and will take on an expanded role overseeing student-athlete revenue share payment operations. He assists the Deputy Athletics Director and CFO with the financial strategic vision for the Athletics Department and is also a member of the Director of Athletics Senior Staff. Thomson previously served as the Assistant Athletics Director for Business Operations for the past two years.

Thomson is entering his seventh year with Utah, initially joining the Utes in June 2019 as the Associate Director of Finance. He served in this role for two years and was then promoted to Director of Finance in April 2021. As the Director of Finance, Thomson managed the monthly and annual financial reporting, financial audits, annual budgeting process, and fiscal closing procedures.

Prior to Utah, Thomson spent five years at Clemson University from 2014 to 2019 – starting as a Graduate Assistant within the athletics business office before being offered a full-time position as a Business Operations Coordinator in 2016.

Originally from Charleston, SC, Thomson earned his Bachelor’s in Management in 2012 and his Master of Business Administration in 2015, both from Clemson University.
