ITALY – Three alumni of the Utah Ski Team will represent their respective nations at the 2026 Winter Olympics, with the Opening Ceremony set for Friday, Feb. 6.
The group of Utah alumni includes
Joe Davies (Great Britain – cross-country skiing), Madison Hoffman (Australia – alpine skiing) and Novie McCabe (United States – cross-country skiing). It marks the second Olympic qualification both for Hoffman and McCabe; both were named to their nations' teams for 2022 but Hoffman was unable to compete due to injury.
Race schedules, results and tune-in information will be available throughout the Winter Games on
Utah's Olympics Central page with additional updates posted on the @utahskiteam social media accounts.
Davies spent the 2024 and '25 racing seasons with Utah after beginning his college career with two seasons at Alaska Fairbanks. He made 14 collegiate starts over his two seasons with the Utes, totaling 11 podiums and four wins. Davies finished his overall four-year career as a two-time NCAA individual champion, seven-time all-American, four-time All-RMISA selection and an RMISA/NCAA West Regional Champion.
He made six starts with the Utes in 2025—each netting a podium result—with a pair of victories along the way. The native of Pemberton, British Columbia, put on a dominant victory at the NCAA Championships in the 20K freestyle mass start, winning that race by over a minute as Utah came away with its 17th team national title all-time.
During his time with the Utes, the coaching staff presented Davies with the Alf Engen Sportsmanship Award (2025) and David Novelle Memorial Award (2024).
Hoffman was with the Utah Ski Team from 2021-24, highlighted by a sweep of the NCAA women's individual championships during the 2023 national championships. It made her the first women's alpine double champion in four years and first from Utah since 1990. Hoffman finished with four first-team All-America accolades after runner-up performances in slalom and GS during the 2024 NCAA Championships. She was named All-RMISA in each of her final three seasons at Utah.
Her return in 2023 made Hoffman one of the top comeback stories in collegiate skiing after missing much of 2022 due to injury. The coaching staff presented Hoffman with the Toril Forland Award after the 2023 season.
McCabe was a three-time NCAA individual champion with the Utes. She skied three seasons with Utah (2021-23), finishing her collegiate career with 19 wins including sweeping the women's Nordic races at the 2023 NCAA Championships. McCabe's 2022 season saw her reach the podium in all six of her college starts with four wins, winning the 5K classic at NCAAs and being named USCSCA National Women's Nordic Skier of the Year.
She was named the team's 2023 Nordic MVP as the Utes' RMISA points leader. McCabe was named All-RMISA all three seasons and a six-time All-American. At the 2022 Winter Olympics, McCabe made three starts, placing 18
th in the women's 30K freestyle mass start, 24
th in the women's 10K classic and sixth as part of the women's 4x5K relay team.
Each athlete in the Utah trio was named a College Sports Communicators Academic All-American during their time with the Utes. Utah's three Academic All-Americans in Milano Cortina lead all schools nationwide; Minnesota has two and no other school has more than one.
