Dahlberg and Charest Lead Utah on Final Day of Home Meet

Utes now turn focus to regionals
PARK CITY, Utah – The Utah Ski Team closed out its home meet on Tuesday with slalom races taking place at the Spencer F. Eccles Olympic Mountain Center at the Utah Olympic Park.
Melanie Dahlberg and Pierick Charest each turned in a sixth-place performance in the women's and men's races, respectively, to lead Utah. For the overall meet, the Utes finished second in the team standings with 614 points—topped only by Colorado.
Slalom races today were moved up an hour earlier to an 8 a.m. start with inclement weather forecasted for later in the day Tuesday. Skies were cloudy throughout the races with sprinkling rain and wind at various points in the day.
Dahlberg's top-six finish (1:32.49) was helped in part by a top-four opening run. Christina Jacobsen finished in a tie for 12th place (1:33.27) as Jacobsen was even with Alexa Brownlie of Colorado. For Dahlberg, it was her eighth top-10 race of the season.
Charest clocked a total time of 1:33.10 over his two runs to place sixth in the men's race. Harry Hoffman narrowly missed the top-10—by just two hundredths of a second—and finished 11th (1:33.45) while Sindre Myklebust was 16th (1:33.75). Johs Braathen Herland was third for Utah on the first run but was unable to finish the second run after coming up just a few gates short.
Next Up
A busy rest of the week awaits the Utes both for alpine and Nordic as the focus turns to the RMISA Championships, which also serve as the NCAA West Regional.
Alpine teams will head up to Bozeman, Montana, for races at Bridger Bowl. The slate includes giant slalom on Thursday, Feb. 26, followed up with slalom on Friday, Feb. 27. RMISA teams will race another slalom on Saturday, Feb. 28, though this latter race will be an individual qualifier and is not part of regionals.
Nordic regionals were relocated to Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Midway, Utah. On Friday, Feb. 27, teams will race a 7.5K classic interval start which will be followed with a 20K freestyle mass start on Saturday, Feb. 28.
