RENO, Nev. –
Johs Braathen Herland skied to a silver medal, extending his podium streak to eight straight races, while
Sindre Myklebust's bronze marked his first podium of the season as the Utah Ski Team raced giant slalom on Monday at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe.
Today's races counted toward individual qualification for the NCAA Championships, but no team scores were kept since the day was not part of a meet. Teams will return to Mt. Rose tomorrow for another GS competition and that will be scored as part of the Nevada Invitational, which the Utes currently lead.
Head alpine coach
JJ Johnson said, "Another strong day for our group. On the boys' side, Johs continues his impressive run and Sindre delivered his first podium of the year. Harry stepped up and showed his GS speed moving up 24 spots from starting 35th to finishing 11th. It was awesome to see Sindre step onto the podium for the first time this season, skiing simply and powerfully when it mattered most.
"On the girls' side, the mindset stayed aggressive. Mel continued her powerful skiing and finished in the top ten. Overall, the group continued to build off yesterday's slalom. Christina, Kaila, and Maisie all put together very solid performances, gaining positions and putting themselves in a place where they can now start hunting for that extra bit of speed. Looking ahead to tomorrow, we're excited to see how they finish off the series. This has been a momentum-shifting block of races for our team as we head into the back half of the season."
