General
- The victory over No. 14 Houston was Utah's first ranked opponent and first ranked win of the season and third victory against their last four ranked foes. Utah's last top-15 win was at No. 14 Oklahoma State in 2024; the last one at home was in 2022 vs. No. 7 USC.
- Utah is 7-0 for the ninth time in program history and first time since 2010. It also includes 1926, '29, '30, '47, '94, 2004 and '08. Three of those teams (1994, 2010 and 2026) had an AP Top 25 victory in the first seven games.
- Utah picked up its first victory over Houston in program history. Previously, the Utes were 0-5 against Houston and lost the only prior meeting in Salt Lake City (in 1977).
- Morgan Scalley is the first Utah head coach to win his first eight games at the helm and first to start his first full season with a 7-0 record.
- The Utes have won 13 straight games for the longest active streak in FBS. It is the longest streak for a Utah team since winning 16 straight from Dec. 20, 2007-Sept. 12, 2009.
- There are three remaining undefeated teams in FBS this season: Utah (7-0), UCLA (7-0) and Miami (7-0). Miami was ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll this past week with UCLA entering the week at No. 9.
- Tonight's game marked the 100th consecutive sellout of Rice-Eccles Stadium. It includes every game with fans in the building since the 2010 season opener vs. Pittsburgh (excluding the pandemic-altered 2020 season, when there were no fans inside RES).
- Utah has won seven straight night games in Rice-Eccles Stadium.
- Tonight's game was Utah's first win when trailing by double-digits in the second half since last year's comeback win vs. Kansas State (trailed 10-0 tonight in the third quarter).
- Houston won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. The Utes defended the South end zone to begin the game.
Offense
- Utah was behind in the time of possession battle at halftime, 15:57 to 14:03. The Utes answered in the second half with a 16:02 to 13:58 advantage. Overall for the game, Utah edged the Cougars in the TOP battle 30:05 to 29:55.
- Quarterback Devon Dampier passed 18-of-26 for 204 yards, while rushing 15 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns. It was Dampier's most rushing yards in his two seasons at Utah. He also had four completions of 15-plus yards.
- Dampier is 17-2 as the starter at Utah. He is one win away from entering the top-six in program history.
- Dampier's 150 rushing yards bring him to 1,183 for his two seasons at Utah. It trails only Travis Wilson (1,225 from 2012-15) for the most by a quarterback in recorded program history. His long run for the night of 22 yards put him in the end zone for Utah's first touchdown of the game.
- Running back Wayshawn Parker had 93 scrimmage yards (46 receiving, 47 rushing). He made four receptions on the night and has at least two catches in all seven games this season.
- Fellow running back Daniel Bray had 33 rushing yards on just three touches.
- Tight end Noah Bennee set a season-best with five receptions (catching all five targets) for 42 yards.
- Wide receiver Creed Whittemore tied a season-high with four catches for 53 yards; he has contributed at least 50 receiving yards in back-to-back weeks. During the fourth quarter, Whittemore came up with a third-down catch that initially left him short of the line to gain, but after a video review Whittemore was credited with a first down.
- Tonight was the first game of the season that the Utes did not score on their game-opening drive.
Defense
- Houston entered the game averaging 220.3 rushing yards which ranked top-15 in FBS. Tonight, Utah held the Cougars to 86 rushing yards.
- Tonight was the first game this season that Houston quarterback Conner Weigman neither passed nor rushed for a touchdown. Weigman entered the game with a passing efficiency of 174.1 which led the Big 12 and ranked ninth nationally; his passing efficiency tonight was 122.0.
- Safety Jackson Bennee made nine tackles, a season-best that was one away from tying Bennee's career-high. Bennee made a strip-sack during the fourth quarter for his first career forced fumble and first career solo sack. It also went as Bennee's first TFL of the season.
- Cornerback James Chenault Jr. came up with a crucial pass breakup in the endzone to keep the game scoreless late in the first quarter. It marked Chenault's third straight game with a pass defended and fifth game out of the last six.
- Linebacker Cyrus Polu set a new career-high with seven tackles.
