Award given annually to nation’s best college quarterback
SALT LAKE CITY — Utah junior quarterback Devon Dampier has been named to the Davey O'Brien Award Watchlist, the Davey O'Brien Foundation announced on Thursday.
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. Dampier is one of eight Big 12 Conference quarterbacks to make the list, the most of any league in the country.
Dampier is set to enter his first season with the Utes in 2025. The Phoenix, Arizona native began his career at New Mexico where he played in 21 total games in 2023-24 with 13 starts. He became the first UNM quarterback to earn All-Mountain West First Team honors in 2024. Dampier led the conference in total offense by piling up 3,934 yards, including 2,768 passing yards, the league's second-highest total.
Dampier ranked third in the MWC with 1,166 yards rushing and averaged a league-best 7.52 yards per carry. His 19 touchdowns were the second-most in the conference and he became the first Lobo QB to ever eclipse 1,000 yards rushing as he rushed for 100 yards in a game six times in 2024.
The list of semifinalists will be named on Nov. 12. The foundation will announce the three finalists two weeks later (Nov. 25) and the 2025 Davey O'Brien Award winner will be unveiled live on ESPN on Dec. 11 during The Home Depot College Football Awards.
