Award combines outstanding values on and off the field for linemen and linebackers
SALT LAKE CITY — Utah offensive tackle Spencer Fano has been named to the Lombardi Award Watchlist, the Lombardi Award Committee announced on Tuesday.
Â
The Lombardi Award was established in 1970, in memory of legendary coach Vince Lombardi. It is presented to outstanding linemen and linebackers who best epitomize his values of leadership, courage, performance, and discipline on and off the field. Furthermore, the watchlist includes players who are consistently showing the values of strength, agility, and football acumen in their respective positions.
Â
Fano is one of 11 offensive tackles in the NCAA to make the list and one of five players from the Big 12 Conference.
Â
Starting all 12 games in 2024 at right tackle, Fano was a First Team All-Big 12 selection after another standout performance on the line. He ended that year with three All-America selections, including PFF First Team, Associated Press Second Team and Walter Camp Second Team. The Spanish Fork native additionally earned First Team CFN Freshman All-America in 2023.
Â
PFF graded Fano at 91.8 in run blocking during the 2024 regular season, more than three points better than any other offensive tackle in college football with his pass protection of 80.3 also being near the top – not allowing a single sack after the first week of the season. He has played in 25 career games at Utah with 24 starts (13 at RT, 11 at LT).
Â
The Lombardi Award will be presented for the 52nd time on Dec. 10.
