SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Athletics Department today announced a transformational $14 million estate gift from an anonymous donor to support Utah's women's athletics programs. This legacy gift will create an endowment that will significantly benefit key initiatives for women's athletics in perpetuity.
Â
"On behalf of our entire department, I'd like to express my sincere gratitude for this transformational legacy gift in support of our women's sports programs," said
Mark Harlan, Director of Athletics. "Future generations of students will benefit and be enriched in profound ways by the generosity and investment from this amazing donor, and we are forever grateful."
Â
This marks the second significant estate gift for women's sports pledged to Utah's athletics department. Paired with the
$6 million planned gift from Harriet and Leo Hopf, the total now reaches $20 million pledged to support future generations of female student-athletes at Utah. The anonymous donor specifically cited the Hopfs' gift as the inspiration for this pledge, being moved by the impact such a donation can make as an investment in women's sports at the University of Utah.
Â
Because of the boundless enthusiasm for the U's women's sports programs, the combined total of $20 million now pledged has created the impetus for the launch of the Crimson Club Legacy Society, established to build long-term sustainable excellence for the University of Utah.Â
Â
The Crimson Club Legacy Society honors individuals and families who contribute to the development of such excellence by leaving the ultimate legacy for University of Utah student-athletes, coaches and athletic programs through charitable estate gifts.
Â
In addition to public recognition in the Jon M. Huntsman Center concourse, Crimson Club Legacy Society members also will receive the annual benefits of the University of Utah's Dr. John R. Park Legacy Society.Â
