Utah Beach victorious over TAMU Kingsville, loses to Tulane

Utah Beach Volleyball’s season moves to 14-6.
NEW ORLEANS, La.— After a weekend sleight of beach volleyball playing at Tulane, the Utes return home with two wins and two losses. Day two for Utah had a pairing of morning matches, consisting of an emphatic victory over TAMU Kingsville (5-0) and a narrow loss to Tulane (3-2).
Utah was without its senior, No. 2 Pair student-athlete Bella Vezzani over the weekend. Out due to sickness, lineup changes were made in the absence to fill in. The pairing of Bella Vezzani and Langley Griffin is 13-3 on the 2025 campaign and ranked by truvolley.com as the 19th best No. 2 pairing in the nation. Utah hopes for full health as it approaches the Utah Beach Classic, next weekend.

"We did miss Bella. She is one of our top players, a senior and has put up a lot of wins for us at the No. 2 pair. Hoping she will be back healthy for next week. I believe she could have made a difference in our matches against Tulane. We did have some players that got the opportunity to step in a big role and they battled for us and handled the pressure well."

In it's match-up against TAMU Kingsville, the Utes delivered a commanding performance. Katie McAlister and Quincy Stephens set the tone in the No. 1 pair with a 22-20, 21-16 victory. Langley Griffin and Londyn Giles battled through three sets to secure a win at the No. 2 spot (21-17, 19-21, 15-6). Utah continued its strong play in the No. 3 position with Kylie Pitzak and Ellyn Collins edging out their opponents in two close sets (21-13, 22-20). Sonja Wessel and Maeve Griffin added another straight set win at the No. 4 spot (21-17, 21-16), while Lauren Sayre and Elle Burleson completed the sweep with a convincing 21-12, 21-15 victory in the No. 5 pair.
The Utes faced a tougher challenge against Tulane, ultimately falling 3-2 in a competitive matchup. Utah's top pair of Katie McAlister and Quincy Stephens earned a hard-fought three-set victory (24-22, 17-21, 15-12). Sonja Wessel and Maeve Griffin secured Utah's second win of the match with a strong performance at the No. 4 spot (21-13, 21-19). However, Tulane prevailed in the remaining flights. Langley Griffin and Londyn Giles pushed their match to three sets but ultimately fell to Tulane's No. 2 pair (21-14, 22-24, 15-9). Kylie Pitzak and Ellyn Collins were defeated in straight sets at the No. 3 position (21-13, 21-15), while Lauren Sayre and Elle Burleson faced a tough matchup in the No. 5 spot, falling 21-9, 21-10.
Utah's lone home competitions are set for next weekend, March 28-29, when the Utes host the fourth edition of the Utah Beach Classic. This year, UC Davis, Boise State, Oregon and Big 12 opponent Arizona will join Utah for the weekend in Salt Lake City. The Utes will host at the Lassonde Sports Court on the Utah campus.
