FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The University of Utah dive's
Callie Eaglestone and
Holly Waxman competed in the women's three-meter event on Friday afternoon at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
"Holly and Callie competed really hard today," said head dive coach
Richard Marschner, "and even though the result wasn't exactly what we wanted, we have a lot to be proud of. Sometimes you can see people's body language and attitude change when things aren't going their way, but Holly and Callie kept their heads up and competed all the way through."
Who Runs the World?
- Freshman Callie Eaglestone scored 277.80 in her first NCAA three-meter event, placing 30th. Averaging 46 points each round, her last dive, a front 2 1/3 with a full twist, scored 54 points to be the outlier.
- Senior Holly Waxman finished her final 3m event with a score of 247.05.
"The true test of character isn't how you act when things are going well, but it's how you act when things are going awry. The grit and character they showed today makes me prouder as a coach than any result they could have achieved. I am very optimistic about our tower event tomorrow though, so I'm excited to see Holly and Kat show what they can do," said Marschner.
Looking Ahead
Competition for the divers continues for one more day, with Waxman and
Kathryn Grant taking on the platform at 1:15 p.m. MT in Federal Way, Wash.
