Award recognizes the most outstanding offensive line unit in college football
SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah football offensive line has been recognized as a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award, presented annually to college football's best offensive front.
The Utes are one of 10 semifinalist units for the award, which is named after Joe Moore, widely regarded as the best offensive line coach in college football history and is the only major college football award to honor a unit.Â
Utah has been named the Big 12 Offensive Line of the Week three times so far this season, following the wins over UCLA, No. 21 Arizona State and Colorado.
Utah is 65-of-122 on third down, the fourth-best conversion percentage in the nation (53.28%) and has scored on 37-of-41 red zone trips thanks to the stellar play in the trenches.
Utah is averaging 267.1 rushing yards per game behind the big guys up front, the third-best mark in the nation and the best among non-service academies.
Utah gained more than 490 yards of total offense in each of its first three games, the first time since 2005 that a Utah squad has done so in three consecutive outings; the Utes have gained 480-plus yards in seven of nine games and 400-plus in eight of nine, including the last five.
The Wasatch Front allowed just three sacks in the first six games of the season, which tied for the fourth-best mark in the nation; the Utes have allowed just seven sacks all year.
