Utah Beach Volleyball Splits Day Two of Opening Weekend

Utes sweep the University of the Pacific for the second consecutive day
DAVIS, CALIF. – Utah Beach Volleyball split the second day of their opening weekend matches on Sunday, sweeping the University of the Pacific 5-0 in their final match of the weekend. Utah would battle UC-Davis in their first match of the day, falling 3-2.

Utah collected five straight-set wins across the board, with four coming against the Tigers from the University of the Pacific, adding one in the first match against the Aggies.

In their first match of the day, the duo of Bella Vezzani and Rylee Johnson secured the lone win of the match, 21-12, 24-22. For the second day in a row, the pairing of Langley Griffin and Katie McAlister put up a three-set fight on the first court, taking their match against the Aggies, 21-18, 14-21, 15-13. Utah would take the final two courts against UC-Davis to three sets. The team of Kylie Pitzak and Marissa Koch dropped their match, 21-18, 16-21, 14-16. Milan Ray and Sonja Wessel would take their match to a three-set finish, falling 21-16, 19-21, 10-15.

The team of McAlister and Griffin secured their second win of the day, topping the team from the University of Pacific, 21-19, 21-10. Vezzani and Johnson kept the momentum going on the second court with a 21-12, 21-18 win against the Tigers. The team of Lauren Sayre and Chloe Narancich picked up their first win of the say, holding the opponents to single digits in both sets, with a pair of 21-8 wins. Kylie Pitzak and Marissa Koch secured the sweep with the final win for Utah, with a 21-13, 21-15 victory.

Utah will return to action on Friday, Mar. 1, traveling to Nagadoches, Texas. The Utes will take on hosts Stephen F. Austin and McNeese.
