Head Coach Kyle Whittingham Opening Statement…
"Tough way to lose a ballgame. Unfortunate way to lose a ballgame. Proud of our guys, proud of our players. They battled. They should hold their heads high. It's not on them. They played hard. They did everything they could from start to finish and I'm proud of them and it's unfortunate. It's unfortunate that it turned out the way it did."
On Brandon Rose's performance…
"His numbers in the first half were really good. We'll have to watch the film on that."
On the play of the defense…
"We couldn't get that last stop when we needed it, unfortunately. It's kind of been the story for several games. Played lights out, just can't get that one last stop."
Sophomore Quarterback Brandon Rose On what changed offensively in the second half…
"Offensively, we just couldn't get the ball moving. We couldn't get down and score. We couldn't keep the defense off the field. We just have to execute on offense.
On what it was like to make his first start…
"Obviously, it was a great atmosphere. Everybody is at a high. Everyone is all juiced up, ready to play. Going into the game, I felt great. Obviously, we didn't get the outcome we wanted."
Sophomore Cornerback Smith Snowden On his emotions when it appeared Utah had won the game…
"Obviously, they were high, but football is football. It is what it is. You have to take it in the chest and get ready for next week."
On what it was like to play in this game…
"It was fun. Don't get me wrong, that was a fun game. The energy was obviously electric. You can't get down about that, but growing up with that rivalry, it was always fun to go to the games and being part of it is really amazing."
BYU QUOTES
Head Coach Kalani Sitake Opening Statement...
"Rivalry game comes down to the end like we have seen so many times. Glad we get to be on the other side of this. Glad we got get this win and our players got to be on the other side of this and celebrate this win. We talked about it at halftime, 30 minutes was still enough time to come back and get a victory. Proud of the players and leadership, the guys stepped up and made plays. It wasn't pretty in a lot of different ways, but you gotta give credit to Utah for the way they played the game and the way our guys flipped it over in the second half to get the win."
On what makes Jake Retzlaff so successful in the late stages of the game...
"He is starting to feel really comfortable in the system making checks and audibles. Give credit to Utah they were making him uncomfortable, but he was able to find his checks."
On what the halftime message was...
"My message was very clear. There is still plenty of time. We have gotten Utah's best shot but we still haven't delivered ours yet, so this is our opportunity to deliver our best shot."
Quarterback Jake Retzlaff On the last drive...
"You know we love two-minute drill. When I was in the endzone, my back in the endzone going down, but looking up and seeing we had new life, our guys were confident."
Kicker Will Ferrin On if he knew the game was on his shoulders...
"I knew the second they called the field goal team out there. That is something I take a lot of pride in is having a neutral mindset, whether we are running the offense out of the endzone or there is 10 minutes left in the game or going on to kick a game-winning field goal, staying neutral is crucial for me. Whenever they tell me to go out there and kick a ball, I go kick a ball. I love it."
On the message from the players at halftime...
"QB1- It's easy to get caught up in the emotion of a rivalry game and a little bit of that happened in the first half. Then we settled in in the second half and started to do our own thing and got back to our roots. Just being us."
Junior Wide Receiver Keelan Marion On if he felt like Jake Retzlaff was living in the moment during the final drive…
"Oh yeah. I went up to him and told him to keep his composure and play his game. You've been leading up to 8-0 and you can lead us to [9-0]. That's what he did."
On if the belief on the team keeps growing with each game…
"It grows every week, every day. The work we put in together, the meetings and the bonding time, a lot of belief grows with that."
Sophomore Linebacker Isaiah Glasker On what it was like watching the last drive…
"We believe in the boys. They believe. On that last series, we knew our offense was going to come through."
On what it was like in the locker room at halftime…
"We just knew that we had to come out and play the second half. They hit us in the face early and we just knew that when we got back out there, we just had to jump on them."
