Emily Venters once again led the Utes with a sixth-place finish as Utah takes eighth at the loaded Nuttycombe Invitational.
VERONA, Wisc. – Emily Venters continues to have a hot start to her senior year while Simone Plourde checks in with a top-25 finish to lead the 12th-ranked Utah cross country team to an eight-place finish at a very loaded Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday.
Utah's eighth-place finish is second only to the 2016 squad that took seventh at the Nuttycombe Invitational – which was led by former All-American Grayson Murphy.
Like her last race, Venters ran with the lead group from start to finish and at one point was in third after the 4k marker before crossing the finish line in sixth with a time of 20:02.9 for her best finish at the Nuttycombe Invitational.
Simone Plourde rallied in the final 2k of the race, jumping 15 spots to grab 22nd with a mark of 20:16.3 – which is a new PR for the junior in the 6k. Keelah Barger was the next Ute to check in with a time of 20:32.0 for 49th while Ariel Keklak was right behind her with a mark of 20:35.7 (60th). Freshman Erin Vringer battled in the final 2k after getting stuck in fray and moved up 40 spots for a time of 21:21.3 (171st) to round out the group of scorers for Utah.
Morgan Jensen (21:42.6), Lauren Peterson (21:49.8) and Karli Branch (21:51.8) closed things out for the Utes in the women's 6k championships race finishing fairly close to one another.
Prior to Utah's top-8 running, the quartet of Kylie Hartnett (22:01.7), Maddie Reed (22:13.7), Brooke Manson (22:34.2) and Claire Rusovick (22:54.5) all competed in the women's 6k B race.
