INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA’s 2014-15 Graduation Success Rate (GSR) was released today and reported that 83-percent of student-athletes at the University of Utah graduated within six years from the time they enrolled as freshmen.
Also announced was the Federal Graduation Rate (FGR), which revealed that Utah’s student-athletes are graduating at a higher rate than the U.’s general student population by six percentage points (65%-59%). Note: The reason behind the difference between the NCAA and federal graduation rates is that the former makes adjustments for circumstances such as church missions and transfers.
Utah had the best (or tied for the best) GSR in the Pac-12 in six sports, five which achieved a perfect score (gymnastics, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, volleyball and men’s golf). It marks the fifth-straight year that the gymnastics team and both tennis teams received perfect scores. Utah also earned the Pac-12’s best GSR in men’s basketball, which graduated 90-percent of its players during this GSR cycle.
Men’s swimming was second in the conference with a 93-percent GSR and was one of nine Utah teams—along with baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, golf, gymnastics, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and volleyball—to exceed the overall Division I GSR for their sport.
