PULLMAN, Wash. - Utah golf posted a 552 (273-279) Monday at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course during the first two rounds of the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate. The eight-under-par mark earned the squad a spot in sixth place, its best tournament start of the season.
Junior Jonathon Thomas also started the tournament phenomenally as he carded the lowest round of any individual in the field after two rounds of competition, shooting a eight-under 62 in first round action. The round also marks a tournament record and tied the course record. A second-round mark of 70 keeps him in third place with a total of 132.
Junior Max McGrail is currently tied for 19th with a three-under-par score of 137 (69-68), while junior Jose Pelayo swung a one-over 141 (70-71) to tie for 36th. Juniors Brandon Kida and Gentry Hicks round out Utah's lineup tying for 43rd and 62nd, respectively. Kida posted a 142 (72-70) and Hicks scored a 145 (73-72).
