SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Utah swimming and diving team swept the opening Pac-12 Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Month accolades as senior Nick Soedel was voted Men's Swimmer of the Month and junior Jacob Crayne was named Men's Diver of the Month, the Conference office announced today.
Soedel picked up first-place finishes in all individual events that he competed in, while also helping Utah to five first-place and one second-place finish in relay events. The senior picked up NCAA B-cut times in the 50 and 100 free. In the tri-meet between Utah, Arizona and UNLV in Las Vegas, Soedel earned individual victories in the 50, 100 and 200 free to help the Utes win the meet. He then picked up another win in the 50 free in the dual-meet against Colorado Mesa, which the Utes won, 179-101.
Crayne recorded wins in all three one-meter events he competed in during November, along with three top-five finishes in his three-meter events. He opened the month with a win in the one-meter and a fifth-place finish in the three-meter in a tri-meet with UNLV and Arizona in Las Vegas. Crayne then scored a 390.75 in the one-meter against Colorado Mesa, a mark that is second best in school history, while also winning the three-meter with a score of 300.22. The junior rounded out the month by placing first in the one-meter and second in the three-meter at the Georgia Tech Invitational, a meet featuring some of the nation's top divers.
Soedel's honor is his first monthly award and the first swimmer of the month honor for Utah since joining the Pac-12 in 2011. Crayne's honor is the first of his career, as well, and marks the second diver of the month honor for Utah.
The Utes are in Austin today through Saturday for the highly competitive Texas Invitational.
