SALT LAKE CITY--
The Utah gymnastics team returned to the gym on December 27 after a holiday break and began putting the finishing touches on preparations for the 2015 season.
The Utes will hold a conditioning session on the morning of New Year's Day before resuming training on Friday and Saturday. Next week, the Red Rocks will train on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and condition on Wednesday. All practices leading up to the season-opener at BYU on Friday, Jan. 9 are open to the public. They will begin at 1 p.m. in the Dumke Gymnastics Center. Note: once school is back in session, practices will start at 1:30 p.m.
"Everyone came back in good shape from the break and eager to get back in the gym," said Utah coach Greg Marsden. "You never have a truly accurate gauge of how prepared you are before you actually take the floor for the first competition of the season, but we like what we're seeing in the gym at this point. The lineups are starting to take shape, although there are still battles for some positions that I anticipate could continue the entire season," he added.
The Utah-BYU meet on Jan. 9 will start at 7 p.m. in the Marriott Center and will be televised live on BYUtv. Utah's first home meet is Friday, Jan. 16 against preseason No. 19 Boise State, Southern Utah and UC Davis.
Utah was picked to win the Pac-12 Conference in 2015 and was No. 6 in the national preseason poll. Season tickets are on sale at UtahUtes.com or by calling 801-581-UTIX.
